Can someone tell me why KS is so slow?......more

bthacker Jan 11, 2005 08:16 PM

I know it's not my computer or DSL. It just seems like it takes awhile to load. I am not a computer expert but everywhere else I go it's quicker than snot.

Good question. I wish I could get DSL or cable in my area - I'm stuck with dial-up.
I think part of it is all the java ads, but I think they've got other issues too.
I used to surf Kingsnake a lot, but about a year ago (perhaps a little less)they got a lot slower - used to be when you clicked the back button, the page came up immediately - now the whole damned page needs to reload.
I don't come here much anymore - it takes too much of my time.
I emailed Jeff about it at the time, but got no response.
Cheers,
Max

I know it's causing me to spend way less time at the site, which is probably a good thing.

I do have the cable Connection and not dial up but I don't know if it is a problem for other cable or DSL users too, mine goes right threw.

I have 3 meg cable service, and k/s is painfully slow most of the time.

Some of you probably already do this, but to avoid the use of the back button and having to wait for the previous page you were on to reload, just right click on the item you want to open next and then hit "open in new window". This way when you are done with the page you just opened, close that page instead of hitting the back button and the previous page will already be open. You won't need wait for it to reload. You can open numerous pages in succession with this. I'm no computer expert, my son showed me this a few years ago and it saves a lot of time when you have dial-up. Thanks,

Kelly

This operating platform leaves alot to be desired, there are plenty of other high traffic forums(outside of Herps etc.) that have twice the sponsor load as well as user traffic that operate much faster then KS.
But until they upgrade to a modern platform/servers this is what members have to deal with.
Just learn who posts quality pics of animals that interest you and dont bother with all the "screamer" stuff and surf time is greatly expedited LOL!!

With the hobby growing at a rapid rate and the number of people on kingsnake growing.... this site will only continue to get slower. I have DSL and kingsnake is the slowest site I visit. Kingsnake needs to upgrade!
