"Croc saves man during Tsunami"

wikd Jan 11, 2005 09:16 PM

I was listening to talk radio in my car this morning and caught the end of this topic. A croc saved a man that had permitted it to reside in his garden for several years by bringing him up with his snout? I'm sure Mr. W von Papineäu will cover it if it truly is in the media.

Thank you for the kind words, however, so far, I have not been able to locate that specific item. Often, radio reports and TV get out before them report makes it to print ... so there may be a chance that iut will show up in the next few days. Also, some international items get picked up once or twice by local stations ... and are never seen again. Very frustrating. I'll try to keep a look out for it but my free research time is pretty much absorbed by my participation in the Canadian military tsunami reaction team (rear echelon ... not the deployed DART). My apologies for the delay.

However, having (hopefully) whetted you appetite, I offer the following similar tail ... ooops 'tale'. Now the croc people have their own version of 'python saves woman'(http://journals.aol.com/berdollos5/Views/entries/285).

ARAB NEWS (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) 12 January 05 Strange but True Experiences Recalled (Mohammed Rasooldeen) {Excerpts}
Colombo: A tsunami victim from Weligama, 18 km from Galle, gained consciousness while she was shrouded in a white cloth and presumed dead in a hospital. But finding all her children dead, she now feels it is better to have been dead than alive.

Another survivor, Upali Gunasekera from Matara, was saved by a crocodile when he was swept away by the surging sea. “When the tide was pulling me, I clutched a floating stool with one hand and a chair with the other to keep myself afloat. Another wave rocked the stool off my grip and as I pulled the chair to my chest I saw a log moving toward me. I hung on to the log for dear life,” he said.
But there was something strange about the log. It had a scaly surface and was no ordinary log. It was a crocodile.
As he began to despair, he felt his belly being nudged and he was pushed a good half a kilometer toward the embankment. There he lay for some time through sheer exhaustion, having been in the water for seven hours — no mean feat for someone who goes about in crutches on dry land.
And then he heard voices, “Yakko, he’s not dead. Pull him out.”

Thank you Greg for some sanity, I appreciate the quick relay.
Story changed from what I had heard, but at least it's out there.
Thank you Wes for taking the time to post for our enjoyment throughout the years! I have been a large fan, and your work is much appreciated
