I am intersted into getting into turtles. i have a couple of snakes, and doing well with them. what would a good starting turtle be that stays relatively small?

I am intersted into getting into turtles. i have a couple of snakes, and doing well with them. what would a good starting turtle be that stays relatively small?
I would suggest getting a mud or musk. Both stay really small, 4inch shells full grown. They are easy to care for, look cool, and are hardy. Def. a good starting turtle.

One mud that is exceptionably personable and moderately attractive is the Yellow Mud, Kinosternon flavescens. Musks tend to be on the shy side.
The Striped Mud, Kinosternon bauri, (even smaller) is cheap, hardy and makes a good pet.
A male eastern, midland, or southern painted turtle stays relatively small.
