Rescued ball today has old boo boo???

cddiveright Jan 12, 2005 12:47 AM

I rescued a 3 yr old ball today. She/he???? is in excellent health however I noticed after getting her home that she has what looks like an injury to her lower lip and vent area. I have not been able to get back to the person I got her from, and I wanted to get some input right away.

It looks like part of her lower lip has "rotted" away. It's dry no puss or mucus she breaths fine no hiss or gurgles her gum line looks fine and inside the mouth is clean and clear. The skin at the front of the bottom lip is discolored.

The vent has a similar look to it less obvious though. There seems to be a gap between the vent and the next scale on the tail section leaving a small area of flesh exposed. Again no swelling puss or mucus.

The previos owner had kept her on what looked and smelled like CEDAR bark for the yard. And it was not clean many sheds and fecal matter not removed. A lamp above one end and a loose 11 x 5 heat tape jsut under the bark. Water bowl and cardboard hide box.

If any one has a suggestion as to what this was caused from I would appreciate it. She will be going for a check up as i do for all new arrivals.
I have never had an injured or sick animal so this stuff is new to me.

If it were me I would get her to a vet to be sure it is truely healing. She could have something systemic going on, being at both ends like that. Could be from filth, cedar, bites. ....

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

I found out today that the wounds were from a house fire 1 1/2 years ago and that she did recieve vet treatment for appx three mionths. She is still going to see my vet for a normal check.
