Wite Leo ?

kfactor Jan 12, 2005 04:07 AM

That pic you always show of it looks like your normal leo in the rock. Is that the rock with the magnet on the outside if so I was thinking about buying one but i have question when you remove the magnet to view them is it possible for the rock they are in to like tip over or fall bc those rocks are i think on there side correct?

Yes, thats the magnet rock. He stays in there all day, they all love it.

The bottem of it is flat and will only move back like .25 of an inch when you take of the viewing part.

What I do, is I have sand in that cage so I pull some sand to the back of it and make it stationary.

You don't realy need to worry about hirting them when taking the cap on or off.

The magnet is REALY strong, if you let the two pieces get together without glass in the middle, you will need a rinch to get them apart.

I only got that one and the next sided down becasue A pat store in my mall was closing and they where selling them for $7 each!

that saved me 50 dallors.

I was going to buy one of those for my son's gecko but the guy at the pet store said that it could crack the glass because the magnet was so strong. Do you think that could happen? Still would like to get one.

I really wanted one too. But one day when I was at Petsmart they had them in all their leo cages. I removed the outside to see the leos inside and a leo was in tneir with his leg completely smushed in between the rock and the glass. I guess sometimes their can be just that smidge of enough room that if their leg is in the wrong place when somone removes the rock facing and then puts it back the two magnet pieces merge in so fast that anything in it's way will get flattened. This poor leos leg (and I mean the fatter part) was disintergrated and almost cut completely in two. I ran and got a manager. He just shook his head and said that was the second time that has happened to them. Thank goodness the next time I went there they had removed the magnet hide comlpetely. So it is possible this was a fluke but it happening twice to them does not make me feel good about them.

dammit. sorry but... I wish they'd test things better before unleashing them on a trusting herp market. ok everyone with those hides, dont attach the outside part anymore ever ever again. tape a piece of dark paper or something on outside of the glass to darken the hide. It's all the same to the leos. That outside part is purely for looks anyway.

ok, thank you. I will not get one of those. The leos safety is more important than what something looks like.

I've had my magnet hut for a long time. I've never had any trouble with it. I use sand, and all you have to do to stop the hide from comeing off the glass at al is shove a bit of snad against the edge. It is quite cool in those magnet hides, and my leo loves it. I found before I used one, she was never asleep dureing the daytime hours. Now, she is always asleep, and has a bigger appetite. I personally, am a fan of these. They just requite a bit of rigging to stop them from moveing.

I also have an adult leo, and I have checked to make sure her leg could not fit in the crack if it made any.

As you can see, everyone that has one loves them. Don't bash the product just because of one stupid little kid that didn't care for the leo in that store did that.

All you need is a little care to see if there leg hangs over, don't put the cap back on. its not that hard to put a gram of sand on the back to station it, or a paper folded up if you don't have sand.

Listian to the people that have exp. with it before you go with the ones that saw a dumb mistake.

Leafer, back your man up,

haha

OK one other solution to the problem SELF ADHESIVE VELCRO one side stuck to the hide one side stuck to the tank wall. This way when you remove the cap the inside shell wont move and you don't have to use sand or a foldded up piece of paper. Thats my 2 Cents. They are nice looking hides and natural looking but the magnets are extremly strong.

Good Luck

*sighs It's gonna be hard to back you up when it was me that bashed the product lol. I still say its too dangerous. Sure you can be careful but its not worth it. Just dont use the OUTSIDE part at all. The leos dont care.
