Second clutch: want to confirm my settings in the incubator

Tubzzzz Jan 12, 2005 08:05 AM

Hello everyone,
This is actually my third clutch with cleo and the first two didn't make it.The first(last year) I can accept because sometmes the first clutch doesn't make it and the eggs didn't look completely health anyway. Her first clutch THIS YEAR did look healthy but they didn't make it either sooo, I want to confirm my settings for this second clutch to ensure there is the correct conditions for her eggs. I have set up a 30 gallon tank inside it I have a 5-10 gallon tank with water. I will put the egg in vermiculite and the temp. in there is 77-79 and the humidity is at 76%. To all you sucessful breeders are these settings correct ?

The last clutch was at a higher temp. and higher humidity. 82-84 and the humidity was 85% and the eggs seemed to be wet !

All and any help is appreciated I am getting very discouraged !!

I think your problem is the amount of humidity. You definately don't want water to gather on the eggs as this can cause the embryo to drown.

I have a friend who was successful this year with a setup similar to what you are talking about but with minor changes.... first get a 6X9 or 9X13 rubbermaid casserole type dish. Dril or punch one hole inthe lid about 1/4" wide. Tkae about 1 1/2" - 2" of vermiculite and add water untill it is wet but not soupy wet. eggs in lid on.... Take the ten gallon tank and get the temp set around 82 to 84 degrees and set the eggs in.... after a day or two you will see condensation set up on the sides of the bowl when this happens cover the hole in the lid with tape. That will secure the moisture... If you see the condensation disappear, mist the lid of the bowl.

Later,
Robert
