Yes, he is very active. It was very squirmy when I held it yesterday, but I'm sure that is because he is scared. I don't plan on picking him up anytime soon. I love his colors, I was surprized to see such bold red as well. Do you know when I will be able to sex it?

As I understand it, you should be able to tell with a Saharan at about a year old - if it's male, you should see the belly starting to color up. Females (even brilliantly colored ones) don't get the red belly or such distinct striping.

Full adult female belly:
(please note that this was when I first got Arthur and she was over 100g underweight)

Full adult male belly:

Thanks! It doesn't have a name yet, I don't know if it is a he or a she. And it is so hard to think of names when you have so many animals like me!
I am acctually kind of woried about the little guy. My cats have terrorized him, one of them jumped on top of the cage and made the screen fall into the cage, he was not injured but very shaken up. My boyfriend is off work today and he is fixing it and reinforcing the screen. And now we have to figure out a way to keep the cats' out of the 'animal room'

PHEve Jan 13, 2005 11:57 AM

heck out of them and really stress em out. I would not let the cat in the room hes in, OR MOVE the uro to a room where the cat wont go.

I have many lizards also, and 2 dogs and 2 cats, the lizards are in a room where they can not go.
I have heard so many SAD stories of cats or dogs attacking lizards, or the stress thing can also harm a lizard and cause him to always stay frieghtened

He / she is a very pretty baby. NICE bright color already, like a male, but hey time will tell. I like saharans I have an adult male very orange.

Let us know when ya chose a name.

Congatulations on your new baby !! I agree it looks like a male. I have one just like him only he's about 5. I also have a yellow and then a plain old uro. We run a bit of a Noah's acr here. Sheltie's, a pair of breeding iguanas,a savvanha monitor( only one presently) and a blue tonued skink. We had a bearded for almost 10 years. The reason I have listed them all out is that they all live in harmony. Sometimes the cats sit on the tops of the lizards enviornments, which have strongly reinforced tops. So in our case it wasn't necessary to have a lizard room. I keep my lizards in the living room and my son keeps his lizards in his room. I agree your poor baby was traumatized when the top and CAT fell on him but unless your cat is vicious, a real hunter, or hissing at the baby you may have an experience like mine where the cat learns to just accept the baby. I know my opinion is more conterversal but we have been doing it this way for 10 yrs, witout damage to a single lizard.

Well, my baby is still doing very well. No more cat trauma. I found that he is very fond of mealworms, which I am only giving to him every few days. I haven't witnessed him eat his greens but I know that he is eating them, he must be eating them while I am at work. He doesn't hide all the time when he sees me, so I am quite happy.
