My 5-foot-plus WC Florida King

foxturtle Jan 12, 2005 10:16 AM

This guy came from the agricultural fields on the east side of Lake Okeechobee in Palm Beach County. Me and some friends lifted a length of guardrail, and I was on the opposite side from this king. He still went home with me, and has been one of my favorite snakes since.

This is one of the lightest kings I've found there, out of over 30...

Nice, and very light colors!!! I'll have to show you my WC 5.5' male "Crusher". I will try to post pics of him later tonight! He also came from the east side of Lake Okeechobee!
Thanks for sharing,

Zee

That is one fine looking floridana. Great find! I have heard there is a tendency for some of the kings to be lighter on the southeastern side of the lake near Pahokee. Have you noticed that trend?

foxturtle Jan 12, 2005 06:08 PM

That snake is in fact from just north of Pahokee. I really haven't done too much hunting in that area, but it does seem the kings that we've found there have had cleaner patterns and averaged a little lighter. I still haven't seen any kings that I would call "high yellow" down there.

Well, here's the one I was talking about. He IS one of the darkest to come from that area (Lake Okeechobee). Unfortuantely I do NOT know the exact location where he was picked up at. But, ugly nonetheless! He is a rat's worst nightmare though!!!

Great pics Nick. You planning on making your way up to the ANF this year?

BlueKing Jan 14, 2005 07:22 PM

Hi there SEAN! I would like to stop by and meet you this April if you don't mind. I'll be coming right through Tallahassee on my way to TX for a spring herping trip. Let me know or just send me an e-mail at carstenzoldy@yahoo.com. Thanks.
