Skinny ig!

Leslie1632 Jul 04, 2003 03:32 PM

I've just taken in a rescue green iguana. Female, maybe 3 or 4 years old or so. Very sweet personality, but she's SO SKINNY!!! She's quite active and seems fine other than her weight. She eats and poops fine.

Should I do something to try to "fatten her up" or should I just feed her normally so she slowly puts on some weight??

Thanks,
Leslie

Feed her all she will eat and let her gain slowly. You dont want to put stress on her kidneys and other organs by feeding her fattening foods because she is skinny. Kinda like a starving child. If you rush it they will get sick. Same way with animals. Feed her good greens collard, mustard, turnip, dandelion, and squashes and mango (for water content) and MIST with water and watch her blossom into a beatiful ig has she been to the vet for fecal tests and blood work? I would suggest that so you know what you are dealing with before she gets sick Also, (if this is your first ig) Iguanas fr Dummies by Melissa Kalpan is a wonderful book Will answer most of not all of your questions good luck
