Hey All! I had a quick question about tank temps. I have a 2 1/2 year-old rankins named Avo. She's in the middle of brumation right now, sleeping her little head off. But, I moved to my parents' house for my winter break. This means that since my father likes to not waste electricity heating the house, it is such a chore to get Avo's tank temperatures stable. So far I have been successfull. She is in a 20 high (will be upgraded to a 40 when I graduate), and I put a 150 watt daylight bulb in the daytime fixture. This bulb along with her UV keep her hot sopt at around between 97 and 105 degrees depending on the room temperature. I also have a 100 watt night light bulb (the purple kind, not the red that gives off that eerie red glow) so that night time temps don't go below 60. Is this okay, or would the 150 be too hot for when Avo basks near the top of the tank? I mean, sure the bulb keeps the tank warm, but I was wondering if having that much wattage near her would be too much. I also know that since she is brumating she doesn't need too much heat while she sleeps in her cave. I am going back up to school on Saturday, where I can adjust the temperature in my room and Avo's tank temps will be much easier to regulate, even with a rheostat. So, this is a little late to be asking the question, but it's just out of curiosity for the future. Thanks all!
