Heating and Feeding Questions

amoeba14 Jan 13, 2005 11:21 AM

Hello, I have a 6 month old normal ball who loves to lay directly on his hot spot. I have an UTH with thermostat so I can control the amount of heat radiating into his vision cage. Most of the time, he is laying directly over this spot. The air temp in the cage is 81 degrees. Is this normal for a ball to do?

When you guys feed your snake, do you do it in a separate container? I just got my ball and will be feeding him for the first time tonight. I have a corn and feed her in a separate container and leaver her until she finishes and then move her back to her cage. Should I follow the same procedure with my ball?

Thanks for the help, sorry for the long post.

As long as you're controlling the temps and the snake is in no danger of burning itself I wouldn't worry too much. Alot of say feeding in a seperate container is a good practice to keep. I do with some and others I don't. If you do and you use the same container you use for the corn make sure you clean it in before you put the python in.

I agree with the other post. Heat is OK just as long as its not hot enough to burn your BP.
About feeding. I used to pull my BP out for feeding but realized the only reasons was so they don't snap at you when you want to go in and pick them up with you hand. Also, if you have a subtrate that may be accidentally consumed by your snake. This is why I switched to newpaper and I no longer feed out of racks or tanks. Good luck!
