Do you have any information on herp sites near Myrtle Beach, SC?

I'm going on a family vacation in the end of May and plan to at least spend one day looking for snakes. Target species shouldn't be that hard to find...corn snakes, yellow rats, eastern kings, scarlet kings, cottonmouth, and possibly even northern pines. I just need some tips on good sites within 30 minutes or so of the beach. I will be flipping in the early morning and maybe doing a little road cruising at night. If you know of any good trash piles, that would be a big plus.

If anyone is willing to share information with me on this, I would be willing to share information on several piedmont NC sites that are great for eastern kings, mole kings, corn snakes, eastern milks, copperheads, black rats, black racers, etc. I can give specific information down to the exact sites in exchange for good info.

If you feel more comfortable responding by email, my address is mcoone@catawbacountync.gov.

Thanks,
Michael

You know you are always invited man. You should go ahead and tell the wife that you are taking her on a vacation and then we can hook up down there and see what we can find. I'm sure she wouldn't mind...

well im from charlotte (huntersville to be exact) but im here in raleigh going to school at state. we've actually just recently formed a herp club, and i've made some great contacts with guys who do a lot of herping, and several involved with snake research in the sandhills. i just got back from our meeting, but next time i see some of the guys ill be sure to toss up the question, because a lot of others have home back in charlotte and we'd all love some piedmont herping sites! ill get back in touch with you soon...

Let me know what you can find out, both about the sandhills and about Myrtle Beach, SC and I will share some killer sites with you for Iredell, Catawba, Burke, and Alexander County. I'm planning a sandhills trip in late April and the Myrtle Beach trip in late May, so let me know asap.

Thanks,
Michael
