Quarantine -

Leah Jan 13, 2005 02:14 PM

There has been a lot of threads recently regarding quarantine, there is every time there is a new shipment, really, so here are a few resources for those of you with questions.

A good source for generalized acclimation can be found here- this applies to chameleons, but is effective with Uroplatus as well. Showers make a huge difference, but shouldnt be used on juvenile animals, or the smaller uros (ebans & phants).

ALso, here are some pics of different quarantine set ups.

As stated in other threads, quarantine is to monitor the health, so the cage needs to be as simplistic as you can get away with. Paper towel substrate helps to see any parasites in the fecal matter, and is easy to clean.

And a permanent cage after completing quarantine:

Leah,

I'm probably the last person that should be responding to this.

I never used a simplistic quarantine set up ever with ebanaui, phantasticus, or sikorae. I've always gone straight to the complicated cages with live plants and foliage. The reason I go straight to set ups like these is because the animals seem to just jump right back into their normal behavior. I've had great success with ebanaui using that method.

As for my fimbriatus and my lineatus, they are all in quarantine set ups with two branches, a slab of cork, and two live plants. These are huge geckos that need lots of rehydration. The fimbriatus have met my shower several times this week and they will continue to until they uncurl their tails. My lineatus actually seem to do fine with heavy misting twice daily.

Anyways, thanks for giving everyong you links to how you and jason keep your animals.

Cheers
Jason

That method works quite well too, the only reason for most simplistic set ups is to monitor the parasite level in the feces.
