DOT and Baby carpet chameleon update

jeffreypeacock Jan 13, 2005 04:22 PM

Hey! Just wanted to keep the community informed. My Dot is doing wonderful and she is alot less stressed!! I think she reached sexual maturaty because she is getting her bronze stripes and she is so docile now! SHE EVEN CLIMBS ON MY HAND WHEN I ENTER THE CAGE!! Also my brothers baby chameleon is doing healthy eating about 30 flies a day and drinking. He poops about 3 times a day lol. Two quick questions, does handling a baby have any impact on how he will respond to you in the future? And is dusting 15 of the 30 fruit flies with Mineral-al I everyday enough?

I'm not sure the amount of handling a baby gets makes a lot of difference. Some chams are just more stressy than others and handling the stressy ones as often as a mellow one will do more harm than good. One way I try to judge how much handling is too much is to watch and see how quickly and how often an individual cham fires up into stress coloration. If it is being handled too much its threshold of stress will go down and it will fire up more quickly, more often, and it will stay fired up for a longer time. If handling is OK, the types of things that get it excited tends to stay the same over time.
