Temp Questions Please Help

freakofnature Jan 13, 2005 05:26 PM

Okay I know what the temps are supposed to be for my boa but the problem is Im not sure exactly where to place the probe for my thermometer. I use newspaper in my cage and had the probe taped right on top of the hot spot,It said it was right at 92 degrees, but then I was told that I wasnt getting an acurate reading that way since the probe isnt heavy enough to make the newspaper lay completly flat on the bottom of the cage like my boa would. I was told to place the probe on the floor of the cage under the newspaper. But I can feel with my hand that the temp on the floor under the newspaper is much hotter than the temp on top of the news paper. Please any and all help on thermometer placement would be great. Thanks in advance.

I second putting it under the newspaper.. Your snake is capable of getting under the paper and if it is too warm underneath it compared to ontop of the paper you could hurt your snake.. I keep my probes underneath the paper, the hotspot remains at the 92-94 underneath the paper and at 90 ontop of the paper.
