Hello, hope everyone is doing OK with the winter weather. I would like to ask if these turtles are primarily loners? Once this turtle is all well, should I be looking for a companion..not neccessarily male?
Thanks for all of your good advice.

box turtles aren't social, usually only coming together for mating or occassionally they cross paths and both sexes will fight and a 1.1 male/female ratio will stress the female out possibly to death.

Thanks rouen, I suspected as much. I won't be looking for another female then, just let her be as she is. Planning an outdoor enclosure for her for the warmer months. That should be a fun thing.
Thanks again....LQ
I wouldn't really consider them to be very sociable, but we have several in a very large outdoor enclosure, with plenty of hiding paces and plant material and room to ramble, and so far have not had any serious fights.
Its mainly in the Spring, when the males are looking to breed, that we need to keep an eye on things: once the weather heats up, everyone calms down, and we frequently find groups congregated in the shadiest spots, minding their own business.
I wouldn't say that they require companionship, though.

While its not necessary at all, I keep a group in a large
pen and they often seem to hang out together, resting their
heads on one another's shell, when there is plenty of room
to keep their distance from one another.
In some cases you can see that they're vying for the best
basking spot, but I've seen them hang out together plenty
of times when there is no obvious reason.
Not necessary, but a group can be fun to watch.
Interesting. Thanks Lisa! LQ
