Good first lizard thats a herbivore or omnivore

angelic_eyes Jan 13, 2005 07:13 PM

Hello, Im thinking about getting my first lizard, I currently Have ball pythons, a red tail boa, and a albino burmese, and also have a savannah monitor. I'm really fascinated by the blue tongue skinks. I'm looking for a little bit bigger lizard one that can easily be held with out being all jumpy and hard to find. And most of all I want a lizard, I dont always have to go and buy crickets and mice for, one mainly on dog food/ fruits/ vegtables, and then maybe occasionally meal worms and other live animals. thanks!

I don't know of any lizard that can be fed on dog food. I think that a good frst lizard is a bearded dragon. For their first year or so, they need crickets 2-3 times a day, but then you can cut the crickets down to 2-3 times a week. Mealworms can be offered 1-2 times a week. i feed mine romaine lettuce 5 days a week. Hope i helped.
