Heating tape?

angelic_eyes Jan 13, 2005 09:45 PM

How exatcley does heating tape work, do you put it inside the tank or underneath? How much heat does it put in the tank? is it the same as a underheater pad?

Heating tape ( Flex-Watt ) is basically the same as a UTH. But the UTH is coated, and wired and ready to go.
Most UTH are made to be attached permanently to the enlosure. Metal tape can hold it to the tank of cage bottom so it can be removed.
Flex Watt must be wired and attached to a rheostat and thermostat.
I use UTH's with thermostats and without on some enclosures.
And never had a problem with overheating.
For more info on UTH vs Flexwatt...go to the cage forum.

I have had both reach close to 140 F. Need the rheostat. I like heat tape because it is not attached with an adhesize and you can allow fo ventalation to reduce chances of being too hot and allow for the heat to move up instead of being condicted in one small area on your enclosure.
