NBS6 (Miami, Florida) 13 January 05 Man Recovers From Venomous Snake Bite - Baby Water Moccasin Bites Man
Miramar, Florida: A South Florida man is recovering after being bitten by a venomous snake Thursday.
Anthony Perri manages a pool cleaning company and was cleaning a pool in Miramar when he saw a baby water moccasin, which is also known as a cottonmouth snake.
Perri said he thought the snake was dead. When he reached to pick it up, the snake bit his hand.
"I thought it was dead and I was in shock. I said to myself, 'I've been bit,'" Perri said. "I trapped the snake in my net and called 911 immediately and they said they would send fire rescue."
Miami-Dade fire rescue officials brought antivenom to Memorial West Hospital to treat Perri.
"The first question I said was, 'Is this poisonous?'" Perri said.
Perri is still in the hospital and his hand is swollen where the snake bit him, but he is expected to make a full recovery.
NBC 6's Jeff Burnside reported that a bite from a baby snake usually isn't lethal to a full-grown man.
Wildlife officials say water moccasins are the most common poisonous snake in Florida.
