BRB lighting question?

Uncloudy Jan 14, 2005 12:18 PM

I keep my BRB in a 4x2 Boaphile and was wondering about lighting the other day. I keep her on an 11-12 hr/day light schedule in the cage. She's almost always hiding when the light is on. I was thinking it might be a more natural and better for the BRB if she doesn't have the light on at all, since in the rainforest and where they are found in the wild it is almost always dark.
Do Rainbows Boas require a light cycle?
Would BRB be better off in captivity without a light cycle and possibly more active?
Curious,

Uncloudy,
...They can get all the light cycle clues they need from daylight coming in through windows. If your BRB is in a room without a window you may want to provide some room lighting during daylight hours. I try not to leave lights on too much in my snake room at night. IMO cage lighting is a bad idea for these snakes.

Thanks Jeff,
Having the cage light on even though by BRB during the day half of the time has her had out her hide made me think of just how the BRB habitat is in the wild. On the floor of a rainforest is almost like night time it's so dark. There is a window in the room where my BRB so from now on I will leave the light off and hopefully see more movement during the day.
Happy Herping,
Uncloudy
