need some advice

kailin120288 Jan 14, 2005 12:51 PM

my beardie hasnt grown much since ive had her and ive had her since september. her colors are coming in now (orange) so i know she's healthy shes very active and eats veggies and crix very well. It's just shes not growing doe you think a 20 gallon tank is too small. Even when i was gone for two weeks she didnt look any bigger.

OK Kailin... we've been answering the same questions for you for the past several months.... you don't seem to want to give us the info we ask for and havenb't to my knowledge taken any of the advice given to you... What is it exactly that you want from us? Color coming in does NOT signify that a dragon is healthy either by the way....

How long is the beardie from nos to tip of tail? What are you feeding it and how many times a day? What are your cool end temps and what are your basking spot temps? Have yoou had a fecal done at the vet like EVERYONE has said to do? Have you tried the parazap tea at least? Are you using UVB lighting and are you using the proper supplements? If you can't answer these questions and/or don't want to take the advice given to yoou why ask?

'm not trying to be mean but it is very frustrating to sit and type a page of help and then see the same post by the same person 2 weeks later and every two weeks after for SEVERAL months...

We'll be more than happy to help if you want to answer the questions and take the advice given you... If not I'm going to stop responding to your posts like everyon else seems to have.

Lets see:

We need more information on her to give any good advice for you about her.
What are the temps in the cage? (Ambient, basking, cool side)
What are you feeding her, how much of it, and how large of insects?
How many times daily is she fed?
Do you dust the crickets/insects/salad with a calcium/d3 supplement?
Do you have a UVB bulb?
What kind of substrate is she on? How old is she?

I would suggest answering these questions so we can give you better advice. I would also get a fecal (stool sample) to the vet to see if it is parasites. A lot of times it turns out that they dont grow because the caregiver doesnt feed enough food for them to grow, only enough to sustain life.

Thanks

I agree witht he above two responses, we really need more information.

Run a check in your tank:

-You should have a hot spot of 95-110degrees
-the cool end of the tank should be in the 80's
-UVB lighting should be provided and should be within 6inches of the baby
-crickets and veggies should be dusted with a calcium supplement every other time you feed
-you should be feeding several times a week if not every day
-you should get a fecal done to make sure parasites are not at work

and i answer EVERY time her temps: basking:100-110 cool:80. I feed her crickets twice a day their dusted with multi-mineral supplement , and her veggies which are romaine and strawberries are dusted with rep-cal supplement. Their aren't any reptile vets anywhere near me. i mist her with water two to three times a day. She's grown two inches in five months that seems strange to me so hopefully someone will answer me because no one has any other time

The temps sound good. I would suggest getting her checked out by a reptile vet (and traveling the distance will be worth it). You can check on google for "reptile vets in _______". I would toss the romaine and get mustard and collard greens. Romaine is just too watery and can give them diareeah, and it has no nutritional value. Mustard and Collard greens are much more nutritious, and have more calcium. Good luck!

OK.... the basking needs to go up to 110-115... 100 isn't enough for a young beardie... the type of veggies your feeding are not the right kind for it to get good nutrition... use collard greens, endive, mustard greens, turnip greens... but stay away from lettuce as thier is no nutritional value... what kind of supplement are you using for the crix? does it have calcium and D3 in it? It should as beardies need the d3 to absorb calcium and the calcium for bone growth... I'm sure you know that... just threw it out there in case.... Though this will contribute to it not growing right it still should have grown more it seems.... also if you don't have a vet close get some parazap and use the tea for a weak see how that does..

www.beautifuldragons.com has a list of veggies that are good to feed if youo check it out... and how many crix does it eat a day roughly?

kale is another good green for beardies, i have been buying the stuff for 8 years and never tasted it lol.
also, i am a vet tech, and most vets should be able to run a fecal for you if they are even usually just a cat/dog vet. most of the parasites are at least related to eachother and are able to be ID'd by anyone who knows the cat/dog parsites. most vet books have some info on what drugs are ok for herps, the vets i have worked for have been cat/dog, but we have been able to treat many of the herps i have rescued just by doing research, nothing major, but parasites are easy, just need to find a vet willing to work on it with you. lol, the vet i work for now cant even look at a snake, but will help me ID parasites on the microscope.
keep on trying, you will get it worked out!
