Wall-less Chameleon Condo??

FEENIEE Jan 14, 2005 12:52 PM

Has anyone purchased one of these? They are in the classifieds and I was thinking about it, but I just wanted to know what anyone elses thoughts were. Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Feenie.

The idea is nice, but I think you can provide more useable space with a "do it yourself" approach. Get a piece of tarp or pond liner, set a nice large potted Ficus (even a fake) on it, hang lights over the top, and free range your cham. Free ranging has its risks especially if your particular cham is shy or stressy or you have kids, other pets loose in the house, etc. If you have the right spot in a room to to it (low traffic right temps and some way to raise the humidity) some chams do really well. BTW there is an article on free ranging melleri in a past issue of the Chameleon E-zine at http://www.chameleonnews.com

That's exactly what I've done with my chameleon. He lives in a big ficus tree in the corner of my bedroom and seems MUCH happier and less stressed than when I had him enclosed. He's free to move around and can 'hide' if he wants to--and the look of the whole thing is much more 'natural.' I'm still working out the humidity details (right now I'm hand spraying a couple of times a day, but have ordered a fogger). I'm a new owner and am still learning, but I think he is getting used to me moving about the room...

Don't get me wrong, my chams have complete jungle gym in "their room" (it's my spare bedroom about 16 x 13) I have a 3 ficus trees, jungle vine, grape wood and lots of potho's for them to hang out. I have lights, mister, ect.... I was just looking for something for my office which is full of bookshelves and my desk and recliner. I thought the Condo looked complete with everything and was compact enough to fit in there without taking up too much space. I was just wondering if anyone had purchased one and what they thought about it. The reason I want one for my office is because I don't like to let my male and female out at the same time in their room, but sometimes I get home late and they can only spend an hour or so out of the cage one at a time. If I can get the condo then Chloe can hang out in the office and Stitch in his room for longer periods and get more exercise. And if they are happy... then I am happy!!
