Age where breeding starts to take place.

I am interested in finding out about what age azureus usually start breeding at?
I have two frogs. The male I bought as a juvenile (has huge disk like toe pads); I am estimating he is around ten-twelve months old as of now. my second which I think is a female (has smaller toe pads) is I would say around eight-ten months old. Both I purchased from Black Jungle at an expo in Seabrook NH in January.

- Is there an easier way of sexing these types of frogs then just buy looking at the size of their toe pads?

thanks in advance.

well, you can try to stimulate them to call, it is the only 100 percent sure way you can determine sex. Only male frogs call, so if one of them starts calling you got a male. You can try to stimiulate them to call by spraying the tank heavily for a few days and simulating a "rainy season". Your female may still be kind of young, they usually start breeding between 1 and 1.5 years.

The toe pad method is a good way to kind of get an idea of the sexes of your frogs but the only way to be 100 percent sure is to hear them call, or to get a viable clutch of eggs, of course .

Most breed at around 12-18 months but its not uncommon for them to go 24 before they start going good at it. However the call Azureus is some what low pitched..I cant hear mine unless I am literally next to the cage..as apposed to my Leuc's or my fants who I can here across the room. I would like to point out one thing here though. It is not true that only male frogs call....female Phyllobates Terribilis and Female Phyllobates Bicolor will also call. I am shore their are a few more that do but that's the only 2 that are sticking in my head.
