Info on the use of Nolvasan

CheriS Jan 14, 2005 03:10 PM

A question came up on another site and I thought this important to share with others regarding the use of Nolvasan, which is something that we use and recommend to others when cleaning and also for debriefing injuries in reptiles.

Someone had noted they had seen on other sites that nolvasan when diluted was only good for 1 say. I had never heard this so I called and spoke with Andie who is employed as a Vet Tech in Professional Service by the maker, Fort Dodge. This is what Andie had to say:

Nolvasan concentrate when diluted into distilled water at a 1:20 or 1:30 concentration is advised as good for 6 weeks

Nolvasan concentrate when diluted into treated water at a 1:20 or 1:30 concentration is advised as good for 1 weeks due to the chemical interactions.

So use non treated water when making the dilution and make only as much as you will use in 6 weeks time.

That's interesting... When you say treated water do you mean like from the tap? Distilled water would be good to use if so right?

Thanks,
Robert

Tap water if from a well is okay and same as distilled or spring water.

Tap water that is from a city water syste, has Cholorine, Ammonia and sometimes other things in it that interact and degrade the ingredients in Nolvasan.
