Need some advice about my rescue...

Drakosmom Jan 14, 2005 06:20 PM

I have had my rescue for 2 weeks now. She is a big girl--over 22 inches-but at 540 grams she is still VERY underweight! She is a German Giant cross and a very pretty yellow (when we got her she was a dull/dark greyish-brown).

Last week her vet check/fecal revealed lots of parasites--worms and maybe flukes. She had a course of Panacure. She was eating OK until a few days ago. The last 2 days she has not eaten on her own. I force-fed her some chicken baby food with some pro-biotics mixed in today.

I'm concerned that she is still loosing weight--she has had diarhea every day. I'm trying to keep her hydrated by soaking her every day--she doesn't seem to mind it.

Is it too eary to give her Parazap? Her follow-up vet check/fecal is next Friday. Has anyone had success getting rid of parasites and putting weight back on a rescue?

Our male (housed seperately in a different part of the house) has never had any illness. He is 1.5 years old and is just waking up from a 2 month nap. I'm pretty new to this medicating stuff. Any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
DM

Try some electrodize which you can get at most any pet store or some diluted pedialite ... I would do as much as she will take from a syringes twice a day..... I'm not sure about the parazap with the panacur but I really don't see how it could hurt as parazap is all natural... but that is just an oppinion... The parazap would definately clear up the runny stools after a few days though... definately give her some of the pedialite or electrodize though as with that condition she probably needsmore than just a good soak although that is good too!
