Blue Texas Garters?

happycamper Jan 14, 2005 06:49 PM

I have found 2 DOR garters which appeared to be T. s. annectens except they are very blue! Not just slightly around the jawline but blue all along the sides and ventral too! However, Texas garters are not even supposed to be quite as far west as I am (Medina county). Unfortunately both specimens where pretty mangled and flattened for me to collect (although I wish I would have taken photos). I'm almost 100% sure they were not blue w. ribbons. Stout with orange (not yellow or red) center stripe. I'll be on the lookout for another this spring...

I've noticed that alot of snakes will turn a blueish color when they get ran over and killed.

when they lose the oxygen after death the blood turns from red to blue thus the blue color...when you die the blue will come to you

Blue states, red states, white states...
This was a scale pigmentation, not oxygen determined tissue discoloration. I've peeled many a Thamnophis off the pavement. Don't mess with Texas!
