Help! Gecko with head swelling!

katahdin_97 Jan 14, 2005 08:25 PM

My poor leo's head is swollen from behind her eye and the vent. It seems to be spreading forward toward her mouth. I spoke to my local vet store yesturday..she said probably a cricket bite and to use neosporin..which I did yesturday (I hope I didn't make it worse). No vet locally..any suggestions?
I can't find a "wound."

I don't think you mean vent, that is nowhere near her head or eye. could you post a pic? is it hard/squishy? Red? etc.

Hmm...maybe an absess or a cyst. An absess can be brought on by a bite, a scratch, a whack on the head or even by nothing at all. A pic might help...

Thanks for the responses..LOL..not the vent...lmao (I was totally flustered last night), but her outer ear, on her crown. It's not red or overly squishy. Since the holidays she's been eatting very little (maybe 2 crickets 2 meal worms per wk., if that). Maybe this has been coming. I'll try and get a pic. later today.

If there is no bite marks at all it's a good chance it's a thermal burn. Has it given off any puss? and what temps do you run in your tanks?

My husband thought that he saw some clear fluid weeping out today. I took a picture which my help. It doesn't seem any worse today. As for tank temp..I use a under tank heater which keeps her warm side is around 90 in the warmest part. Her cave is around 70, with an outside temp of 80. I'm trying to put a picture on here. If it doesn't show up it's in the photo gallery under : Chevy's swollen head. Thanks for your patience with my photo downloading ingnorance..LOL.

hmmm... not sure about that. I would say that a vet visit is in order. She looks a little skinny too, and if she's not eating, it may be more than a bump on the head. An xray may help a lot so what's inside that thing.

I think that you are probably right about a vet visit. Hopefully my local vet can help. She's always been on the skinny side....I got her from a friend (6months ago), and she was in terrible shape...poor thing..I thought all of that was behind us.
Thanks again for your input. I'll keep you all posted.

Ah, I can see a red spot on her swollen spot now. I'm assuming that it is infact a cricket bite. Let's hope it's not too late for her to get better.
