my pacific gopher pics and questions

janel Jan 15, 2005 10:31 AM

Hi everyone. I bought her at an IRBA show in San Diego a few years ago. I also got a striped albino at the same time. In fact she was in a tub of albinos and she was the only normal in the pile. I didn't ask at the time because these things didn't matter to me back then, but is it likely that these snakes were all from the same clutch (since the breeder had them all in the same tub) and that mine might be het for albino? Also I heard that the stripe is dominant, so would that mean if the albinos in the tub were all striped (and I think they were) that my "normal" could not be related to the rest because she is not striped? In fact is she really a pacific afterall? When I bought the normal and the albino they were about the same size as hatchlings, but the normal has grown MUCH bigger than the albino by now. Do albinos tend to be smaller (my albino has never been a great eater)?
Thanks to anyone who knows more than me and can answer any of my questions.-Janel

does this help identify her?

my question to you is: how much did the breeder sell them for?

The reason I am wondering is that I had 2 snakes (for a short time)That I "rescued" from a lady who wasn't taking great care of them. She claimed they found them (actually was a baby and an adult) while on a camping trip in Oregon. I believe the snake she gave me looked a lot like mine, bit the color on mine was brighter/better. Otherwise the pattern and markings were just like my snake.
Anyone else out there have an opinion? Is this a pacific gopher? I have seen San Diego gophers and I think they have more blothches/dots/whatever they are called and mine has more solid "saddles".
I found my receipt from the purchase and it has only lists "1 gopher snake" ($25 in 2000). So perhaps I bought the albino in a different transaction.
Thanks,
Janel

The one posted to your question for non-applegate pics. It does look a lot like mine, but I think the dark marks/spots on the back are a bit smaller. Mine also has some reddish tint as you look near the tail, not as much as Shaun's. Now I really would like some more input on mine. Anyone??

The head pattern is different, mine has a bold dark line across her face between her eyes like a bandit. Does that help?

It's a little blurry, but the only pic a have right now.
I think this is a pacific striped albino (female). At least that's what I was told when I bought it.

sum sandiegos have lots of red/orange on tail, lower body, sum have non. mine have quite a bit. some have black saddles, some have brown. i think the saddle coloration is what affects the albino coloring. ive noticed that black saddles produce white ones in albino, and brown ones produce lavender in albino. nick.
p.s. i dunno wut that has to do with anything, but i felt like posting it lol.
