Collarded With Mutilated Tail Any Suggestions

CollardedDragons Jan 15, 2005 01:03 PM

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what i should do. I got home the other day to find the tail of my female Collared half eaten not sure if she did it herself or if it was one of her babies (10 months old) that are in the tank with her. it's almost eaten right through... dosen't look good. I've been putting Polysporne on it. Thanks for any suggestions.

By any chance do you have any loose crickets in there?
That would looks like a cricket munched on her!
There are other bites on the tail too!

a few months ago, my little juvey male was terribly de tailed, she had nipped a few times, I seperated them to eat after that, it was okay.
One morning I went in to find blood everywhere, and he had atleast half his tail completely off.

Your girls tail will dye there, and probably fall off. I would keep her on paper towels, and off sand if thats what ya have, until its healed. Otherwise it can get really infected.

I used a cotton ball dipped in an iodine solution
(NOT not the stuff they used on us as kids that burned.)
This is benadine, or the generic one, Povidine solution, bought at any cvs or drugstore.

Then I put neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment on it several times a day until it healed. Thats why ya have to get her on paper or her tail being treated with ointment will pick up everything / sand.

And also seperate her now. Someone you have her with is a very aggressive eater and just grabbing aimlessly or a tail biter, keep an eye on everyone in that tank.

Hope she will be okay. Also if that tail is biten almost through like it appears I would , hold my breath and SNIP IT clean.

Let us know how she does!

Heres my little guy awhile after the attack.

If they are just bloody bite marks in the skin part of tail just treat until healed / or I have to add you could call a Vet.

DO NOT SNIP unless its almost biten all the way through in spots. I hope you understand what I mean. Would not want you to snip if its not kinda hanging.

I agree with Eve. That tail has been devitalized and will turn black and die soon. I would take it to a vet and have it removed to avoid infection spreading throughout to the rest of the body. I had to have an entire limb "clipped" by a vet once after one of my anoles fell victim to a tragic accident. She healed nicely though, and she got along quite well after her recovery. We called he "Tripod."
