Building my own rack----> Got Questions

toshamc Jan 15, 2005 02:34 PM

I know it's been asked before, but I scrolled for pages and didn't find the answer. So I'm going to ask it again.

Situation: I was going to buy a rack and had it narrowed down to either one from Jasons Jungle or a Boaphile. My husband (bless his heart) was completely against me spending "that kind of money" when he could build the "same thing for a quarter of the price" and "I wouldn't have to wait 4-6 weeks" he could do it next weekend. Yes he is planning on using the same type of materials and he's real good at building stuff so I do think he can do it.

With all that being said.

I need to know: What is the best size tubs to get for the rack? If I can pick them up this weekend, he can start the design and pick up materials this week.

Any other suggestions/recommendatins would also be great. (I know just order one right?).

Thanks!

Tosha,

Your best bet is to ask on the cage building forum. That being said, I suggest you just go to Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart and get "standard-sized" tubs. Get extras too. I have a couple Matrix racks that use Rubbermaids. They are no longer made so I have to use "off-sized" containers with lids. It's a pain. Get something from a company that produces large quanties like Rubbermaid or Sterilite - you'll have better luck finding replacements later on.

I don't know what size Matrix rack system you have, but I have five of those Matrix rack's you are talking about. The ones I have uses 15qt sterilite or 32qt sterilite. I get the boxes at Target.
I wish Mike from RoyalMatrix kept selling these rack's, because they are great. I have to get a rack system for adults soon.

I contacted Sterilite two years ago and they said they discontinued the ones I was using. I have not been able to find them anywhere since.

Hi jmartin104
Wow, I had my racks for about six years or more, I have the receipt somwhere around. The Matrix racks I have uses the 15qt 0r 32qt the long way and they have belly heat. The target in my area has them all the time. I can try and get you some if you need those sizes, let me know. I have around 80 of the 15qt and 6 of the 32qt, but have to get some more soon of the 32qt. I like the Sterilite brand.

Tosha,

If you are planning to house adult BPs, you can look for the Sterilite # 1960 tubs. Dimensions are....
34 1/2"L) X 16 1/2"W) X 5 5/8"H)

Don't know why those whiney faces popped up but that was not intended.
