or caresheet with info on redtails..He/she is about 3ft long. It seems to be a bit dehydrated and has some stuck shed..I am not sure what kind it is, the pet store guy thinks its a Columbian. Is there a sure way to tell how old and what kind?
He said it belonged to a college student who had to move. This petstore is okay but the guy knows nothing about reptiles, he had it in a 5gal with 3 other ballpythons. The assistant wouldnt even take the snake out because she was scared of them, I had to take it out myself.
It is very docile and friendly so I think the former owner held it quite a bit. The petstore guy had it for two days but said the former owner had it about 6mnths and it was just a little 1ft baby when he got it. So Im guessing its about 8umnths old.
Im under the impression it needs about the same care as a ball python is this right?
Thanks for any help

As far a simular to a BP yes,but only "simular"
Although I dont follow the common mass when it comes to bci husbandry what I have works consistantly for a few locales.

90*MAX warm side,85* average
75-80* cool side
Humidity 45-50% unless in blue then raise to 60-65%with misting
Stuck shed; soak in warm(85*F)water for 15 min and wipe with a wet cotton towel to remove(dont force it)resoak if needed till removed.

From what you said about it looking dehydrated i would take the snake and soak it in some warm water for about 20 minutes and if you put some of that skin conditener stuff for reptiles in the water with it that will probally help the old shed that is still on it and do this about 1 a week and it should start looking better

Well I feel better. I did the same thing about 5 weeks ago. I was at a show by myself and ran into a breeder I know with some nice looking red-tails. I couldn't help it. when i got home I just told my wife it followed me home. She just said she knew better than to let me go by myself and shook her head. She asked me how big it would get so in order to keep domestic tranquility I told her, "A little bigger than my largest Corn snake."
Anyway riobravo.com is a good starting place.

She'll figure it out before then, but she seems to get attached to my friend pretty quickly. Last August I bought 2 snakes in Chicago. She wasn't excited, but she wouldn't put them down on the drive back until I told her she was making them psychotic.
