Where can you find leaf chameleons (Brookesia/Rampholeon)? Does anyone breed them or even sell them?
acually there are alot of places that have them.
some of the big reptile stores like:
reptiledepot.com
lllreptile.com
and kammercreations.com
you could also try your luck with some off [bleep].com but be weary as some are wild cuaght or are nearing old age.
sorry must be a "bad" website

Hi - just my opinion but the leaf chams are not the best beginner chams. They have high humidity requirements which can be easy in a tank but if it gets "too" wet you will have a hard time drying it out, mold can develop and other problems. Much is still not known about their nutritional needs (supplementation) and there is dissenting opinions on their need for UVB. You will always need ff and very small crix. They also have a short life span maybe 2-3 years. Yes, they are adorable (had a trio) but I would suggest you begin with a veiled. Be sure you finish all your research BEFORE you purchase by checking out the sites I gave you below, buying a book or two (Kammerflage Kreations www.calumma.com) has a good selection. Their site also has great info, setup check list and lots more. And of course ask question here - BEFORE you purchase.
re: the leaf chams - I KNOW that others will disagree with me here but as I said, it is my opinion.

Hi the smaller chameleons can be somewhat hard for novices
But if you do research and be prepared for losses you may be able to get the ramaining ones to survive and thrive
If you are new to the pygmies i would suggest that you buy cb ones as the wc are extremly hard to acclimate
if you have not had chams i suggest a veild of around 8 weeks old they are reletively cheap and very hardy
however if you have your mind made up i think fc reptiles has wc and cb rhamps
lele not trying to make you mad but i have an extra male i would send you (lele) for free just to change your mind and since you post on this forum everday and you evedently are knowledgable about chameleons i will even guarantee it for a month!and ill bet if taken care of properly will live alot longer I honestly Beleive He will change your mind!!

Dennis,
You did not make me mad
and that is a kind offer (I will email you). I wrote that based on personal experience. A couple years ago - as my first cham and did all my research - I purchased a 1:2 cb trio from the Kammers. They were 4 months old and 4 months after that they all died within 2 weeks of each other. I, my vet and the Kammers do not know what happened. I was heartsick as I had done "everything right," (still have all my pics) was in regular phone contact with the Kammers thru it all and never hesitated to go to my vet, regardless of cost. The day I was bringing Bart (the last to die) to the vet to have him put in formalin and shipped to a vet in FL (who was willing to do a necropsy in order to try and find out what had happened and possibly learn more about the species), my (very reliable Subaru!) car died and I was unable to get him there in time due to decomp.
As knowledgeable as my vet is, it is difficult to even diagnose these little fellows and then give proper dosage/treatment. I think it is a lot to ask a new cham owner to "prepare for loss" and therefore my suggestion on him/her beginning with an easier species.
I still miss my little girls and Bart

Lele i felt so badly when they died!! When my first girl died I was so worried I'd lose the other two, I kept thinking about your little guys.
They are sweet little creatures, just try not to be too head over heals for them because they can just go without notice, more so than large species of chams.

Not trying to take from your losses
But when trying to acclimate ANY wildcaught animal you can and should expect losses
As more and more people breed and research any particular animal the better the chances for it to florish So is the case for most if not all of any ANIMAL
Please dont take any of this out of context it is not meant to hurt any feelings It is just my oppinion
Lele the offer is still up let me know

Well said Lele. I couldn't agree more. Get your feet wet with aboreal species first.
You will see alot of dealers reccomend just putting a trio into a tank and your off. Couldn't be more from the truth. They are cheap because huge amounts of certain species are imported. If they were so easy you would see everyone selling captive born.
I currently have 3 species and don't find them easy at all.
