ARolf Jan 15, 2005 08:06 PM

ok the name seems a little deceptive, there are two pens one for my two russians and on pen for my two easterns. so here is my question does any one know of a site that ships some type of kit that i can use to plant a veriety of weeds/plants/grasses in there cage. i know the turtle cafe has a kit but it is curently sold out. does any one know of any ofther websites? also does any one know of any miniture fruit trees/plants that the easterns can eat their fruit?

Hi! I am certainly not all that knowledgable about these little guys but I can tell you that mine just loves the little crabapples off of my mini Crabapple trees. And also the fruit from the Indian Plums which are a large bush that grows wild here.

The trees are not only beautiful but useful too!

Cont.... sorry, I forgot these paragraphs...I have a number of fun, dwarf trees that bear fruit and I will be looking forward to summer and Fall to see which ones my Turtle will like.

I can suggest(just to try in containers) Figs, any number of apples, prunes, plums, nectrines and peaches. As fruit makes up such a small part of my turtles diet I am not sure how long it's going to take to test these fruits this coming summer/Fall season. I am thinking of a multi bearing tree with several different fruits grafted on the same tree. I know it also depends quite a lot on where you live as you what will do well in your area.

A phone call to your local Extension Service should help with that. have fun....LQ

looks like you already know they have to be in difrent cages and they eat diffrent things. the fruits that other ppl have told you about are good for box turtles but the torts shouldnt eat alot of fruit. they can eat the leaves of some kind of fruit trees tho, like mulberry trees and grape vine leaves and strawberry leaves, but just a little bit of fruit. the torts will mostly need weeds like dandelion and chickweed. they eat flowers like hostas and geraniums, flowers and leaves. lots of greens too.
