Eastern smooth green snake......

watermonitorman Jul 04, 2003 07:20 PM

I caught a eastern smooth green snake about 8 months ago he has shed 3 times and is eating great. last week he ate 3 large wax worms and like always he would rest for a day but the second day he would be moving about again. but for the last few days he is not active during the day unless I take him out is there something wrong with him ,or is he getting ready to shed?

thanks

I wouldn't be overly concerned at this point. My experience is that in general, snakes tend to be less active during the day in the summer months than they are during the spring mating season. (They have their priorities!) It could be that he's just taking more time to digest his recent meal. It also could be a subtle change in his environment - temperature, humidity, etc. Try to keep his environment as stable as you can, and if you have one, set up a thermometer/hygrometer in his enclosure to monitor any changes. If he's about to shed, he'll take on a relatively dull appearance and his eyes will show a bluish filmy cast. Hope this helps, michaelb
