Can Gargoyles see Red?

milwaukeereptile Jan 16, 2005 02:07 AM

I was wondering if anyone knows what color gargoyles can see (or which ones they can't). I was looking to use a read light for some nighttime heat, but didn't want to bother her (the room gets pretty cold at night with the sub-zero temps around here lately). I know leopard geckos can't see the red from the red night bulbs, and didn't know if Gargoyles were the same way. Thanks for any info.

Don't bother with those red bulbs. The good ones are made from red glass and they barely put off any visible light at all, which is great if you don't care to look at your geckos at night.

The cheap ones are just red painted glass and they put off a lot of light, which from what I can tell, reptiles can see.

Go to the link below, click on Basking Bulbs and then these Exo-Terra night bulbs will be at the top of the list. I use them for all kinds of reptiles and they never present a problem with interupting day/night cycle.

They're not your typical "blacklight" that produce the glowing look like you see in teenagers' bedrooms. They put of a dim, blue light.

They can't be the typical "blacklight" that lights up colors, those lights are Ultraviolet bulbs, that emit UV radiation....these that you are describing, are not ultraviolet.
