Deep yellow Floridana

Keith Hillson Jan 16, 2005 12:06 PM

I remember a bunch of years ago at a petshop in Wisconsin they had for sale a 5-6' deep vivid yellow Florida Kingsnake. This wasnt a Brooksi but a standard Floridana with just excellent color (I dont mean reduction of black either). This shop was about an hour away and I would go there about every 2 months to see if it was still there in the hopes that it would get cheaper lol. After about a half a year he was sold and I kicked myself for not getting him but being in high school I had meager funds. Here is a pic of a snake just like him in fact almost identical . Ive raised a number of Florida Kings up and they never acheived that deep yellow look either they were cream or just a dirty yellow. Jetzen's animal that he calls Butt Ugly is pretty damn close and is a nice example to which I refer. Where are these Kings ? Is one locality known for more deeper yellow color ?

have very deep yellow. It's hard to capture on camera just how intese the color is. They aren't as black as the one you posted, but have a somewhat darker background. Even this pic doesn't do for them. The closer to the belly you look, the more intese the yellow is too......kind of washed out with my crappy camera.

Reminds me of a very nicely marked speckled king. I used to have some very nice ones in the eighties. . . I would like to see if anyone has these or breeds them myself. They're beautiful.

I've seen a few WC kings from around Tampa, and they had some real deep yellow coloration. I know of a few captive bred lines out of that area... the mahoghany FL kings and the sulfur FL kings. Both exhibit a strong yellow coloration, though the sulfur kings are a bit lighter. Jetzen's "butt ugly" looks just like a mahoghany to me...

The suwanee kings I've seen also had a really strong yellow coloration.
