Escaped Eastern Milk...

HerperHelmz Jan 16, 2005 01:41 PM

lol, I never would've thought this damn thing would be so hard to find. He's about 2 feet long and pretty thick, and I've checked just about everywhere, I've found escaped neonate ringnecks easier than this! And this thing is gigantic compared to those. I brought him out of brumation to see if he would eat, so I put him on the heat pad, I went to check on my collection this morning, like I always do to turn on lights and stuff, and saw the lid of the milk's container was popped off. My first thought was, damn, now I have to look for this thing all day.

Well, for 4 hours I looked it for him, under beds, in clothes, under anything laying around, under just about everything, and I've yet to find him. Any tips or anything?

That all depends on whether or not the cat is out and about. I've found the few that had escaped from me in the past in the most unlikely places: a hatchling honduran that curled up around the transformer of an unused 10 gallon aquarium fluorescent light fixture. Was only after I removed everything from the room to find no snake though, and then went back and started really looking with a flashlight that I found it. The other was a california king that decided to go down the hall to my bedroom and take up residence in the bottom drawer of my ex-wife's nightstand. Lucky for me my son found him curled up in the drawer and not her. Best of luck with the search.

Dan.

Of the 4 adult snakes that have escaped in my lifetime, I found three of them under a bed in the room where they were being housed.

Coincidence? Probably, but I would do a thorough check under the bed and up under the springs underneath the mattress.

Good luck. It sucks when this happens.

Still nothing, man, if anybody really wants to do some critical thinking, let go an eastern milk adult in your house and attempt to find it lol. I never thought a snake of that size would be this hard to find, especially because I've checked everywhere, even under the bed(which, mind you, is simply a mattress lol), nothing. If I find this thing, it will be my highlight of the year w/out a doubt.

Maybe your next best bet will be to wait until dark, turn off the lights in the house and patrol with a flashlight. I've also found my escaped snakes at night for the most part.

Good luck man.

After awhile you give up looking for him and hope he one day shows up. I had a Ca king show up in my bathroom after 2 months .
He looked thin but not bad. He was my first snake and I didnt secure the tank cover.
I looked everywhere the first few days . Than one night I open the bathroom door and there he is. I would think after your snake "settles" in he might move at night .
Let us know when you find him.
Luis
