D. imitator temperatures

aquakej Jan 16, 2005 01:51 PM

I am setting up a terrarium for a pair of D. imitator, and I was wondering if a temp. range of 72-82 degrees would be okay. I know some other thumbnails like it a bit cooler than that, but that is what it runs in my tank, with the lighting. I was thinking that the imitator might not mind the higher temps? Does anyone know about this, or should I re-do the lighting to get the temp. down?
Thanks

I'm not an expert on D. imitator but I would suggest lowering the temp by a few degrees with a max of 80 degrees. Try checking the temperature in different parts of the cage, the frogs should be able to self thermoregulate by moving away from the hotter areas of tha tank to cooler area. Often, the small sheltered spot under a coco hut or at the watery base of a bromeliad may be cooler than closer to the light source.
Hope this help.

One more thing, a way to cool the tank, besides adding a small fan in the hood and/or adding more vents, is to turn the lights off for an hour or so in the middle of the light cycle.
