Yellow Belly Question...

JohnZ Jan 16, 2005 03:38 PM

OK, this might have been answered before. I have not been on in a while so kinda out of the loop. What makes a Yellow Belly a Yellow Belly? I see photos of the undersides of these snakes and just seems to be going over my head. Can someone explain and even use photos to show me what to look for?

Also, what does the Yellow Belly produce as far as breeding?

Thank you... John

If you do a search on the Yellow Bellies on this forum you will find all your answers. The Yellow Bellies produce Yellow Bellies when bred to a normal and when bred to a Yellow Bellie will produce Ivories.

I did that, got over 6,000 posts that match the search "Yellow Belly" and they are from every forum on Kingsnake. Is there a better way or a way to ONLY search in the Ball Python forum?

Other than that, i guess i will ask someone who wants to help. Thanks anyways... John

The search engine pretty much bites...

From the pics I've seen it looks like a yellow belly should have all or almost all black markings excluded from the entire middle belly scale and at least half of the smaller belly scales on each side (some have no black on any of the three belly scales). At the edges of the white or yellow belly there seems to be a pile of small broken up dark splotches. Also, on the lower sides the dark pattern seems to widen and fade in the middle.

I just picked up a 0.1 WC ball from the pet-shop today, She has a...different belly that kind of resembles a yellow-belly. BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOAD UP PICTURES! They're on my cpu, but I can't figure out how to load them up. I have a 1.0 100% het for albino too...what would happen if I bred (saying this IS a yellow belly) the het to her? "Yellow Belly x Het Albino"

Het for Ivory and Het for Albino. Interesting...

You would get about 50% yellowbellies with a 50% chance of being het for albino's.

I find it hard to believe that a yellowbelly made it past the catcher's/exporter's in Africa & then past the importers here in the states, but you never know.

Good luck,

Well, they said that they came straight from Africa. I'm sure the importers don't always get the good ones. And you ARE right, you never know. If someone helps me get these pics up here, I'll show you a pic or two.

I can't even get my own pics up on the forum, so I can't help you there..LOL.

Yes they do miss an occassional YB Ball, but very few. BHB enterpises said he will get about one YB out of every 10,000 he imports.

Unless the petshop is a licensed importer, (maybe, but unlikely) the snakes would have came through another source. Most of the petshops that also import are located in Fl.

see the little thing at the bottom of your post box that says (Tools and Toys) that tells you how to post images. Or you can go to the gallery upload you pictures and pick the image from the drop down list that appears (in gray) at the bottom of the that says Select Image from Photo Gallery:

First you have to have a kingsnake account I think. Then what you have to do is go to the PHOTO GALLERY and click the upload photo button in the top right corner above the photos in the gallery. Hope that works for you

What I see on yellow bellies is the black checkering along the bellie scales along the length of the animal. They also usually have orangish washouts along the sides closer to the belly.
