cheap morphs......

iluvblackfrancis Jul 04, 2003 08:31 PM

i was thinking about getting a ball python of some kind of morph, if there are any in my price range. i want to start breeding them, i already breed leos and corns. i have about $100 to spend at the next IRBA show in san diego, and i was just wondering what morphs, if any, are in that price range?

Sorry, but that wont get you any morphs. You might be able to get a pair of hatchlings for that price though.

Really? There goes the market then.

butterscotch are $800
hets are at least $400 a pr

black backs that are good patterned enough are from $200 to $700...(I saw a couple of German guys for even more than that at Daytona last year)

even 50% possible chance het for albinos are about $150 a pair or more....

...$100 = a pair of normals....or even 1 normal from alot of people....or 10 ---$10 normals from Africa that didn't eat for a month and a half....

sorry...good luck....get a nice year old female....

For $100 it is going to be slim pickings, but here are your two choices. You can probably get a het orange ghost male for $100, at the show or on KS. You also MAY be able to talk a breeder into selling you a male het albino for $100, do not be afraid of trying.

My advice to you would be to figure out how long it took you to save up that kind of money, and then multiply that by 20, giving you $2000. With that kind of money, you might be able to get the morph you really want, and not one that your budget allows. If you are only trying to get a morph to HAVE a morph, and you really don't care what you have, ....oh well then...........

hmm, well i just got my first job, and i make about $100 a week, so it'll take about 20 weeks to get $2000. what i really want are albinos and piebalds, but i don't have the patience to wait for those, especially since im more of a leopard/fat-tailed gecko kind of guy. about how much do 100% hets cost for either of those?

I am not totally sure on this, but I think for a pair of het. albinos you are looking at around $1000, and for a pair of het. piebalds around $4000-$5000. I might be wrong on this though...

That sounds about right.

50% het males go for pretty cheap. You could probably
pick between albino, caramel, pied, axanthic, some ghosts,
clowns, etc for < ~$100-200. Maybe you will get a het and
be able to produce an awesome morph in a couple of years (through
line breeding). Let me know if you have any questions about
the process.

Good luck!
