For all new owners or prospective owners!

There have been a lot of people recently buying a new boa, or other snake and they seem to have one thing in common. They do not know what to do when they get home with the animal.

It is good to see they care enough to ask questions, but shouldn't who they buy it from be able to answer these questions. Any reputable person can and will. It is nice to see people here with experience helping, BUT:

This is not what these new/prospective owners should be doing. If someone WANTS to buy a boa, other snake or any animal... they need to do RESEARCH BEFORE they buy it. You should know basic PROPER care, problems you may encounter are where you would ask questions. You should also have the PROPER houseing for the animal(s) before getting them, do not wait till after and then put it in your goldfish bowl. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER CAGE YOU CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER BOA (from the Boa Constrictor manuel).

To many people are seeing cute babies and buying them with out a clue as to what that baby needs, not to just survive for a few years, but to live a LONG and productive HEALTHY life.

I know I have been interested in a vatiety of reptiles before, then after a month or more of research I decided it wasn't for me.

Sorry for the long post, do not want any arguements, just pointing out an observation.

I think there will always be those who buy on impulse...face it everyone does at some point, that's how salesman earn their living. I think what we should be more concerned about is providing a place that these newbies can come and get quality information...Remeber they care enough to even seek out this site and others that are out there too. That was also my point in a previous post that kingsnake should be putting advertisements in regular mainstream magazines. The general public that buys at the petshops most of the time have never even heard of kingsnake. Ask them! I have! Some people get so caught up here they forget the real intent is to provide quality info about the hobby that we enjoy so much...share it with others and it will only make this hobby better.

As long as I am here I will post what info I have learned so that others can benifit, and also keep an open mind so I can learn as well. Thanks Andy Federico

If there is ever an oportunity for me to help I will. If this is the way to educate people then we have to utilize it.

With more law and bans passed the people who give reason to institute them are careless owners takeing large pythons out in their neighborhood, leaveing cages open so that the snake gets out and eats a cat, and the all to many cases of releasing animals. Many or these people realize LATER that they do not want or can't take care of the animal. What if they did the responsible thing and realized this before ever getting the snake. This would reduce the negative press on the hobby, and give the animals a quality life with someone who cares.

Howmany people do you think are going to actualy read that before owning said snake? Probably noe. So instead of [bleep]ing from a soap box why not try to educate and help your fellow hobbists? everyone has to start somewhere.
