I read this forum regularly although I don't post very much and sometimes I'm realy disapointed with some post's and replies I read. all of us who make up the reptile "community" should try to remember there are groups out there who would like to ban reptiles and it will only be easier for them to do if we can't even get along amongst our selves, what we need to do is stick together. So when you see a post from someone who just got their firstsnake, asking what you feel is a stupid question remember that their a potential new member of our reptile community and if all they get is negitive replies because they may have misspelled afew words or their grammar is poor their going to think were all just a bunch of jerks, or worse if their question does not get answered and maybe their snake dies then we may have forever lost that potential new member and if you believe it or not we need all the help we can get ask someone in New York. I think it only hurts our cause to fight amungst ourselves over mutts and morphs and being overly critical of peoples spelling. so can't we all just get along we are all in the same boat. sorry for the long rant but I beleive these are the facts. Steve M.

well said, I think to many people forget what it was like when they first got into the hobby and had a million and one questions that they needed help with.

That's why it's popular. I even click on Tex's posts (you know who you are.) Kinda like a car accident-you HAVE to look.

See in my post below. I think we SHOULD and NEED to help new comers, however isn't much of the responsibility theirs. Most of us started on our own by reading and learning. This is mainly due to a lack of resources like forums, but people are becomeing lazy and think of reptiles as disposable pets, they don't realize their boa should live to 20.

We do need to help! I think negative remarks should be left out, just don't reply. On the same note, these newcomers should know the basics and be preventative in their actions in healthful care for their new animal.

When books talk about quarantine, getting a vet check, proper cageing with good heating and a reliable thermostat, and buying from a reputable breeder who will help you; they are NOT lying. In every herp book I have read all of these things are covered and repeated, at this point I skip them in new books, or read them to learn the updated and better methods in husbandry.

There is a reason for everything. Before makeing a decision one should examine all ends of the possibilities.

Hey Chris...I think what you are saying would be more fitting to a perfect world. We all know we do not live in a perfect world. Young kids are still getting pregnant, despite all the education that is being pushed. Families basically fell appart years ago and this is the end result of it. Think of our organization as a family...We will always have to deal with the ramafications of impulse decisions. We as our learning progresses have to educate those comming in behind us. The hope is that someday the strength and size of the mass of our organization, will make learning the first step, and all will fall in place. The more visible our organization the more aware the general population becomes. Andy

Andy, thanks.
I do not know what to say, but everyone should read that! It was put together so well.
