food for cresties

newticus Jan 16, 2005 10:35 PM

I'm trying to get preparded to care for a few cresties. When feeding fruit how mashed should it be?, like 1st stage baby food, or a little more lumpy. AND is it cheaper to make your own food? Does any one do this? Can i make a lot then freeze it? and i've had a bunch of comflicitng info about suppliments. Some say 1-2 times a week for adults, some say every other day. Cause it can be detrimental to suppliment too much. And if you offer a variety of fruits do u really need to suppliment vitamins? And one more questions, do you guys feed everyday?, some say to feed something everyday, some say ever 2 days.
Any info you have is greatly appreaciated, and thanks for your time

it really just depends on what works best for your schedule. i used to only feed baby food and crickets ( dusted every feeding)
now i feed crested gecko diet every day of the week except for wednesday and sunday when i feed crickets lightly dusted in calcium.
every once and awhile i'll feed them just peach gerber babyfood because they really like it.

i like to keep 2 jars of gerber baby food at all times, rotating every day. its pretty economical to get new jars every week or two. at 88 cents a piece, how can you go wrong? i mix in CGD with the baby food as well. when, on tuesdays and fridays, i supplement their diet with medium sized crickets dusted with either CGD or calcium powder. its been working pretty good, but i may experiment adding more insects to the mix.

Trying to figure out the right combination of pureed foods, nutritional requirements, and how much of what supplements to include would be time-consuming and maybe not the best for your gecko's health. Repashy already did the hard work in creating a "ready made diet", take advantage of it.

So save yourself the hassle and just stick to Crested Gecko Diet. It's available at Petsmart and online, covers all the basics, and couldn't be easier to use.
