My male MHD, Beren hasn't eaten in around 17 days. Or, he hasn't eaten from me. I keep a thing of superworms at the bottom of the cage to make food readily available, and someone's eating them. I think it's him because Barahir only eats crickets, Tinuviel doesn't care for superworms and Meche really only wants earthworms. He hasn't dropped any weight, he's got beefy thighs, and he's actually increased in activity in the past 17 days. Maybe he's clearing his gut before mating or something? Or is it some kind of seasonal thing? He hasn't contracted parasites or anything, so I think maybe he just has a slow metabolism. He like, looks at his food, then walks back and jumps in the cage or on my arm.

From what I have seen the males really drop their food intake during the winter months. Also, males around the 2-2.5 year age are just reaching maturity and seem to slow down a bit and even slim down through the body. Generally the adult male is more slendar than the adult female most of the time.

So, my thought is that if he isn't getting thin and activity is on the increase he is probably sneaking bites on the sly!
