eyecap on redtail

pythonis Jan 17, 2005 04:24 AM

okay guys and gals, i posted a pic of a prob i was having with my boa seeming to have a stuck eyecap. well i took him to the vet and they said that it wasnt a stuck eyecap cause they poked and prodded (yay, i got to take a ticked off snake home!) but they couldnt get a hold of any sides of a retained eyecap. so since i recently purchased a digcam, i thought i would repost the question to see if anyone could tell me about what im may be dealing with.

Maybe the animal put it's head near the heat element? Who knows. I've never had this situation but I've heard about weird things like snakes getting burned and going into two consecutive sheds. They are truly amazing animals. From the picture, looks like it's "blue," IMO I think a stuck shed would look more pasty or white. i've only had a stuck shed one time and it was tip of tail that rubbed off pretty easily. Good luck.

well i have been keeping the humidity high (80%) and have been spraying him down daily with water. of course, let me remind you that the vet said that it was NOT an eyecap, that he had apparently injured or scraped his eye earlier on. also, i acquired the snake through an adoption only a couple months ago so im not sure what all has happened to it.

Move your hand only on that side slowly towards the head. Does the snake react? If the vet couldn't figure it out, hopefully it will just clear up after next shed. Please post after next shed.
