I LOVE THIS FORUM-PLEASE DON'T CHANGE IT...

Moderators, organisers, please recognise the popularity of the boa forum! I'm sure it's a lot of work for you guys, but please don't split it up. I have leaned so much in the past few years listening to arguments from morph/locality breeders, husbandry arguments, ect. i am just a pet owner who enjoys the diversity on this forum.

It is not being "split up". The general boa forum is still the general boa forum that is open to discussion on any type of boa species. We are not forcing dumeril boa people for example to use only the dumeril boa forum anymore than we have forced the anaconda or rainbow boa people to stay in their individual forums when we gave them their own forums some time back.

We are simply adding new forums in a different format than people have been used to seeing on this site. Those individuals who WANT to discuss specific topics don't have to wade through a forum of pretty much everything else if they don't want to. Likewise, those that do like a mismash of everything in one sitting don't have to hear them complaining about it anymore (hopefully). Example: people here occasionally grumble about questions not getting answered on whatever topic because everyone else is doing nothing but posting thread after thread after thread of bci photographs. What if someone had a dumeril question and it gets lost in that deluge of bci photos? That person, especially a new individual, may feel left out or not welcomed - now they have the added option to try the dumeril boa forum for assistance if the general boa forum doesn't pan out.

The subforum format lets us put in more forums that people do want without taking up a ton of space on the main forum page... it's creative organizing of real estate property and we also provide a more focused search for individuals that do want to go to something specific rather than wading through a general everything.

The subforum stuff is still being worked on...there are things that still haven't been fixed yet like navigation bars between the subforum and the parent forum. Give it time. If afterwards you still don't like using subforums, then just stay away from them and stick to the main parent forum.

I have had this discussion with a couple of the folks at PH, always in a polite manor and I will broach the subject with you also. The reason (in my humble opinion) that there is now a much greater posting of “Look how pretty my snake is” as opposed to true discussion at Herp related topics is because of the censorship in the forums. If a topic get too “heated” the entire thread ends up being removed and the actually information posted is lost. I understand that the conversation can get heated and that many people with over defend their opinions to the exclusions of all others, but if weeded through the topic is a just one and should be allowed to discuss.
There has been rumors (and I say rumors because I don’t not know the true reasons fro the removal of these posts) that if a person post information about an item they tried and did not like, and the item is a sponsor / advertiser on KingSnake then the post is removed. Where if it were truly a free exchange of information, I should be able to relay my experience to other Herpers regardless of the fact that they are an advertiser. If the product does not work, then it should be stated as such, regardless of their advertising budget.
Now, of course I understand that there need to be control. The swearing and cursing that goes on needs to be dealt with and personal attacks such as “your snakes are ugly and so is your wife” should be removed, there is never any reason to call a person’s snake ugly LOL. But the free flow and exchange of information would promote more informative posts and not just the “wow look at my snake” posts. Informative posts may be controversial the may be taking as an insult, whether meant as one or not, but the point of view may be valid and should not be censored.
Again, Just my opinion on the “Look at my snake” posts and why more informational posts are not placed on the forums.
Thanks
