Another Pic........And a question

ginebig Jan 17, 2005 09:03 AM

OK, question first. I have a pair of yellowheads, female is 8' long and the male is 6'. They've been off their feed since November. Temps and humidity have always been a bit on the low side, but before November they were both taking either jumbo rats or guinea pigs every other week. Not showing any desire to breed, and from what I've read they're not big enough yet anyhow. What else might be the problem?

well, you said that temps and humidty were always low.. thats probably your problem, or atleast a good place to start. They might have gone of feed since its now colder and dryer than in Nov. Try to fix that problem and go from there.

Thanks, workin' on that. It's room temp inside the cage even with a 150 watt spotlight, and they have a UTH. Over that it stays about 85 degrees, and they still wanna hang out on the shelves.

Well temps are most likely the reason they are not feeding. Because the female is no where near ready to breed the male probably wont breed till 8-9ft and female wont be ready until atleast 3yrs old and 13ft 14ft. I've heard of breeding younger but isnt a very good idea or that common to happen.

sorry didnt read fully I thought you were actually trying to breed them
