Pics of my "guys" - 1-17-2005

felanmoira Jan 17, 2005 12:26 PM

Thought I'd post a pic of my guys today. We've named them Gollum and Smegal - since they seem to like their crickets "raw and wriggly".

The brighter one is 5 inches long and weighs in at 10 grams.
The duller one is 4 1/2 inches long and weighs in at 10 grams. So they are both gaining weight - obviously shedding (little bits have been found in the cage and their coloration is changing) and adding some fat to those tails.

I feed my crickets Fluker's Orange Cubes and T-Rex Calcium Plus Food for Crickets. I also put little cotton pads in the cricket cage soaked in water so they can drink. Is there anything else I should be doing to gut load the crickets? I'm not losing many before they become leo food, but was wondering if I could do anything different ... they're in a plastic cage with papertowels on the bottom, two toilet paper rolls and a piece of egg cardboard. I think my crickets live better than ME!

and keep me away from any expos! I promised no more pets and I want more leos!!!!

The crickets seem to be living fine but from the way you worded it i take it you buy your crickets from the petstore? Not a good idea, some crickets may carry a parasite that will soon infect your leo when it is consumed. Just for your leos safty i'd recommend you use mealworms while they are babies and either continue meal worms or feed them superworms as an adult. But you can continue feeding them crickets if you want the risk of parasites.
