Anyone think this Black Back looks gravid?

RyanT Jan 17, 2005 12:35 PM

This female is supposed to be a 100% het albino. She was bred for 2 months by a male 100%. Since then, they have no interest in each other. She has continued eating. The last time she ate was 3 weeks ago but she has gained more girth since then. Even after she had passed the rat. Sometimes you can see a rigid look to her sides, almost bumby looking. And I swear I can feel hard lumps inside of her when I let her slide through my hands. This is my first attempt at ever breeding balls so I can't be totally sure if this is a stupid question because she's obviously gravid or just wishful thinking on my part. I sure hope she is cause I'm dying to know if she's really a het. Either way though, she's still an awesome looking ball, in my opinion. Take a look. Thanks. Ryan.

What size is she? I'd say in the 900 gr range which would be very small to breed, always possible but small. Doesn't look gravid to me...

what she weighs. But she's definitely well over 900 grams and more than ready to breed. She's over 4 feet long and quite heavy. If I had to estimate, I'd say at least 1500 grams or so.

Depending on when you started breeding them and when you expect eggs IF she's pregnant, (which she looks not to be) youshould stop feeding her. Let her use her energy for pregnancy, not for digesting meals.

Keep feeding her, but switch to mice, if that isn't what she eats already...that's what Ralph at ralph davis reptiles recommends as it helps them rebound faster after laying. Two sure signs that she is gravid is 1) She'll lay cold...meaning she will stay on the cold side of the tank and 2) She'll trun part of her stomach up towards the air. I guess either way, you'll find out in a month or two. You can always keep cycling your male in there anyway, it wont hurt anything.

I think your both rite in a way...i tend to offer food about every 10 days or so through the whole process if she wants to eat she will if she doesnt she wont...i dont really worry about it to much.....i figure shes got things under control..lol...so i guess if you wanna fed her or if you think she should be fed....either way shes the one who decides.....so let her.......

Once I seperate the males from the females at the end of March, I no longer offer food to my females, whether they want it or not. If they don't have enough weight on them by this point, I'm not pushing it.

She does ALWAYS stay on the cool side and I often find her stretched out and about half inverted. Something else that leads me to beleive there's something going on. Sorry I left that part out. Thanks for the advice and comments.
