Mt. Meru Jacksons

HEy all!

Does anyone in the forum have any experience breeding dwarf jacksons(Jacksonii merumontanus)? As far as i have heard, succesful breeding is rare, and quite difficult. I can't seem to get my pair to stop their hostility towards each other. Anybody with dwarf jacksons, i would appreciate your wisdom on the matter. Thanks!

I heard a story about a breeder that couldn't get his to mate either. one day when he was cleaning out the females cage she started head bobing like a male would and he decided to introduce them agian and the female let the male mate.

im not sure if that is what you have to what for becuase that might not happine....your couple just might not like each other....if youd want you can buy another female...or male and try it.

The proper environment can play a role in mating success too, but the general rule is for the pair to be at least 12 months of age before breeding. When the female is introduced into the male's enclosure, she will lighten in color if receptive. Some mating techniques of the jacksonii spp are a bit unusual (compared to veiled and panther). Fellow breeders relate that their females are usually not too agreeable to mating. The male must sneak up on her and surprise her. Well planted enclosures aid in this process.

Hope this helps some,
